This is the Alimentarium Swiss 0 Souvenir Banknote. The Alimentarium, located in Vevey, Switzerland, is the world’s first museum entirely dedicated to food and nutrition. Opened in 1985 and housed in Nestlé’s former headquarters on the shores of Lake Geneva, the museum explores the cultural, historical, scientific, and sensory aspects of food. It is operated by the Alimentarium Foundation, established by Nestlé, though only a small section—the preserved Nestlé Room—focuses on the company’s history.
Following a major renovation in 2016, the museum now features a permanent exhibition titled “Food – The Essence of Life”, divided into three main themes: Food, Society, and The Body. Visitors learn about global food production, culinary traditions, and human digestion through highly interactive displays, hands-on activities, and multimedia content.
Outside, the museum features a beautiful edible plant garden, integrated into educational programs and seasonal events. Nearby, the iconic Fork of Vevey—an 8-meter stainless-steel sculpture rising from Lake Geneva—has become a symbol of the museum.
The Alimentarium also hosts cooking workshops, children’s activities, and temporary exhibitions year-round. It appeals to families, school groups, and anyone interested in how food shapes our world—from farm to table, and beyond.
